Born in 1968 come mostra temporanea e chiuso nel 1983 per consentire i lavori di restauro della Rocca Estense, il 21 May 1994 il Museo ha riaperto negli attuali spazi della Rocca con l’allestimento a cura di Mario Turci. Nel corso degli anni è stato svolto un continuo lavoro di aggiornamento e di implementazione della raccolta esposta, bringing the initial five sections to the twelve current.

Domenica 19 May, starting at 15, la Corte d’Onore e i Prati della Rocca si animeranno con laboratori, giochi e attività proposti dai diversi enti: Museo dell’Automobile di San Martino in Rio, Museo Il Correggio di Correggio, Museo della Bilancia di Campogalliano, Orto Botanico dell’Università di Modena e Reggio Emilia, Museum Reloaded, AR/S Archeosistemi soc. coop. e LE. FA. GIO.
